Out Of Space.
My media hard drive is full. I mean. Just full.
If I want to add anything. I need to delete something. Or. I could do this:
I find movies I’m not terribly in love with, but don’t want to delete, and I replace them with lower quality copies. Take “Captain America: The First Avenger”. This movie is not award-winning. It’s not a must-see. But one day, when I’m explaining Marvel superheros to my kids, it will be necessary viewing.
Keep in mind, this could be 20 years from now. The Internet will barely even remember 2011’s Captain America, and finding a download in high quality might be damn near impossible. I should hold on tight to that 1080p copy now! But alas, that is not an option if I want to continue adding content.
Deleting my 1080p copy to replace it with a 720p copy saves me a few gigabytes… but imagine how shitty that 720p copy will look on a 4k screen down the road?
These are the things that keep me awake at night.
